Raise your hand if you dread headshots!✋ The secr Raise your hand if you dread headshots!✋

The secret to a great experience is:

✅ Working with a headshot photographer who directs you and doesn’t just pose you.

Cuz you’re an actor, not a model.

You act in front of the camera, you don’t pose.

✅ Working with a photographer who collaborates with you.

Cuz creating characters with life is a two-way street.

Actors can’t do it in a bubble.

Headshots are NOT nice pictures. 🚫 That’s a trap Headshots are NOT nice pictures.

🚫 That’s a trap most novice actors fall into.

✅ Your headshots need to 1️⃣, market you SPECIFICALLY for the type you’re auditioning for and 2️⃣, bring out your personality.

✨ Your type, or what I call a “marketing look,” is based on your age range.

If your age range is 18 to 23, your marketing looks may include “the guy next door” or “the hipster.”

👉 If you don’t know what looks to choose, COMMENT with the word “looks” and I’ll send you my look guide.

✨ Your personality is what’s going to sell you for the role you’re auditioning for.

So it’s really important you work with a photographer who can bring out authentic expressions.

It’s the hard truth, but “perfect” headshots don’t It’s the hard truth, but “perfect” headshots don’t book acting jobs. Character does.

So many actors try to hide the very things that make them unique and castable.

But what you might see as a “flaw” is what a casting director sees as your unique differentiation.

❌ Now stop asking if a headshot photographer shoots “commercial” or “theatrical.”

Here’s the truth: It’s not that black and white.

❌ Your “Suburban Mom” look isn’t just for commercials.

✅ You’re also the “Suburban Mom” in a one-hour drama.

✅ The “Office Guy” in a sitcom is the same “type” as the “Office Guy” in a procedural.

What changes is the context.

So, what actually changes in an acting headshot to convey commercial vs. theatrical?

Your ESSENCE.

✨ The “Mom” in a Target commercial has a different feeling, a different story, than the “Mom” in Ozark.

Your headshot session shouldn’t be about just “smiley vs. non-smiley.”

⚡️It should be about capturing an emotional arc for each look—from a bright, commercial essence to a grounded, theatrical one.

📸You don’t need two different photographers.

You need one photographer who directs you like an ACTOR, not a model, to show you can do both.

This is the mindset shift you need about headshots.

❌ Headshots are not just “nice” pictures of you.

✅ Headshots are about giving your reps the marketing tools they need to get you auditions.

So they should showcase the specific roles you’d auditon for like actress Alessandra does here.

✨ Invest in a pro headshot photographer who understands how to market you.

If specific headshots didn’t work for you...👇 It’ If specific headshots didn’t work for you...👇

It’s because you think that changing outfits IS a new look.

❌ It isn’t.

✨Here’s the deal.✨

‼️Giving the same “sexy face” in a hoodie, a suit, and a cardigan doesn’t mean you have three different looks.

I see it constantly: actors frustrated that their “specific looks” aren’t working.

But when I look at their headshots, there’s a total lack of variety... in their essence.

❌ The “Mom” can’t have the same sultry, seductive essence as the “Love Interest.”

❌ The Blue Collar Guy can’t have the same sultryness as the Leading Man.

By mixing them, you send a contradictory message.

✅ Your essence has to match the look or you negate the purpose of getting sepcific!

⚡️To convey a different look, you must change THE ESSENCE of the character.

🎬 That only happens when you act on camera instead of just posing.

Hi, 👋 I’m Vanie (Vah-nee), the LA Headshot Photographer for actors who don’t like to pose. I use improv to direct you, bringing out an emotional range for every character so you embody the look and don’t just change outfits.
