Have you noticed a massive spike in shows revolving around mature characters in their 30s, 40s, and up? 🤔
In recent years, I’ve observed a noticeable INCREASE in programs centered on seasoned characters, and a DECLINE in the traditional “teen-oriented” dramas that used to dominate network TV.
Shows like The Morning Show, The Bear, Yellowstone, Succession, and The Last of Us are on our watch-lists far more than their younger counterparts like Euphoria or Outer Banks.
But I feel like there was a time when shows such as Dawson’s Creek, Beverly Hills 90210, and Felicity eclipsed almost everything else on TV.
Well, it turns out I’m not imagining this trend! 📈
According to recent data on streaming and television trends, while viewing habits have shifted to platforms like Netflix, Max, and Apple TV+, the demographic that is “binge-watching” the most is 35 and older.
AND THAT DEMOGRAPHIC wants to see themselves reflected on screen! This clearly explains the popularity of these “popular” shows centered around characters with a little more life experience.
I THINK THERE’S A REALLY POSITIVE MESSAGE HERE FOR OLDER ACTORS.
There was a time when Hollywood made even a 25-year-old actress feel “old.” 👵 Ask me how I know…
I believe now there’s more room than ever for actors to hone their skills as they gain experience in their youth, and mature into opportunities where they can play principal roles or even leads in their 30s, 40s, and beyond.
Actors like Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore, and Reese Witherspoon are proving that your “prime” is much later than we were once told! 🎉
The takeaway? If you’re older than 30, it’s not too late!
The industry is not just looking for “young faces” anymore. They’re truly looking for seasoned “fresh faces.”

This is very encouraging for us baby boomers who are just “testing the waters’ but bring a lifetime of experiences to the table. The demographics make a lot of sense. Let the “kids” have the internet as we will continue to huddle around our televisions.
Stunning photography on display here. Brilliant realy.
