[Hollywood Headshots by Vanie]
Do you know how to get into the right doors in Hollywood?
Back in the day when submissions were done via snail mail, a friend of mine mentioned he was looking for a new agent and submitting his headshots with a clear envelope so they could see the headshot from the outside. Yeah that was a thing back then.
I thought to myself, “Really? There’s got to be a better way.”
And of course, that approach yielded minimal results. The calls he received were NOT from the most desirable agencies.
Then I thought about one of my clients who had mentioned how he consistently visits commercial casting houses and drops off a cleverly packaged bottle of goodies, with his headshot and “essence-breakdown” wrapped around the bottle from the inside.
Because that package sits on the casting director’s desk, reminding them of who he is, this has proven to be an effective way for him to get called into auditions.
💁🏼♀️ I proposed my friend do something similar with agents.
Yes, it’s uncomfortable to go into an office unannounced and without an appointment, and yes, you may get the cold shoulder or even rejected, but wouldn’t it be worth the effort, if for every 10 doors that close, one valuable door opens?
If you want traction in the business of acting, think outside the box. 📦
A couple of good resources for new and innovative approaches in this internet-based & crowded marketplace are www.CareerActivate.com by Jona Xiao and The Actor’s Branding System by Jodie Bentley.
I’ve photographed both women and can vouch for their reputation of being the best at what they do… teaching you how to get effective representation.
And remember, thinking outside the box can get you noticed, but your headshot is the ultimate tool that gets you in the room.
