The number one headshot mistake

Wanna know the biggest mistake I see in headshots over and over again?

“Hey look at me and how pretty I am.” 💅

And over and over, agents ask actors to re-shoot their headshots.

Why? Because though pretty, their headshots lack personality.

Unless you’re a model or one of the truly pretty people in town, you shouldn’t shoot just pretty, because just pretty won’t sell you when you walk in the door— your personality will. 

NOW, I’M NOT SAYING GO TAKE A SELFIE with your iPhone 📱 and post it on Actor’s Access. 

What I AM saying is to use a photographer that can light well, make you “real” pretty and not movie star pretty. 

Because while you may have a pretty face, if you’re the everyday person next door, but your headshot makes you look like a model, AKA deer caught in headlights, you’ll get called into the wrong auditions, waste everybody’s time and  probably not get a call back.

Also, if you’re the 5’2” guy with a strong jaw line, who looks stunning in his headshot, but walks in with 20 pounds too much below the neck and is 5 inches too short to be the lead, do yourself a favor and stop shooting pretty.

Your agents need to sell you, so when they ask for headshots with personality, just trust them! ✅

Headshots are a marketing tool, not just pretty pictures of you.

“Pretty” is good on Mom’s mantle and satisfies your vanity, (so I’ll light you pretty) but only pretty drains your wallet and makes you wait for auditions as time passes you by.

I believe you’re more than just “pretty”, so your headshots should be too.
