Have you ever been asked for your RAW files?
🙄 Yeah me too.
That’s not surprising but the other day, a “photographer” who wanted to work with me actually asked if I’d be willing to give out my RAW files.
THAT surprised me.
Because this guy definitely didn’t value his own work (nor mine) if he was asking for my RAW files.
See what he doesn’t know is that, as a photographer, having full control over what the final images look like IS A GAME CHANGER!
I didn’t fully appreciate this fact until I started shooting digital and started processing my own images in Lightroom.
Because when I was shooting film, how my proof-sheets turned out was dependent on how well the lab I worked with, followed my instructions.
And as the little guy, it was hard to get them to acquiesce to my vision.
Once I started processing my own images, I got waaay more work and waaay more referrals because I had control over how they were processed and presented to my clients.
💁🏼♀️Because of this , I was able to develop my signature style. You can too.
Keeping your RAW files and not giving them away with your should be a non-negotiable.
If anyone tries to negotiate RAW files with me, I explain my position but if a prospect insists on changing that line in my contract, it’s a deal breaker and I will respectfully let them know we are not a good fit.
Don’t know how to explain your position on why you don’t give out RAW files?
