Sooo, I had an actress shoot headshots with me the other day, after having just spent $400 on another set elsewhere that her agent wasnât happy with.
Now, my packageâ the timed, one hour session, only $600. Not a huge difference, right?
Here’s the sh*ty part:đ her agent had actually recommended me from the start. Cue the re-shoot with yours truly, causing this poor girl to now unnecessarily spend a total of $1000 on headshots.
BUT she figured, sheâll just grab some âquickâ headshots, and save a little. Yes, she actually used the dreaded word âquick.âđ¤Śđźââď¸ We all know thereâs no such thing as quick and good right?
She told me that she saw me more as an “investment,” one she should make when sheâs getting a âfullâ set of headshots.
But hereâs the point I want to make. She didn’t say the pictures were bad (though, in my humble opinion, they weren’t great).Â
What really stuck with her was the experience.
She told me the other photographer was âunpreparedâ and gave her ZERO guidance. That’s what she focused on, the lack of professionalism.
â¨And THATâS what I want to really hit home for you.â¨
It’s not just about the final images, it’s about the entire experience you provide. Itâs about guiding your clients, being professional, and making them feel valued. Because theyâll forget your pictures but theyâll never forget the experience with you.
To further make my point, just yesterday, another client was raving about how professional my website and follow-ups were. And guess what, most of that follow-up, as I teach my students in Headshot Academy, is automated through my CRM! He was blown away when I told him that.
That’s exactly the kind of reaction from clients we should all strive for.
The takeaway here is, don’t be that photographer.
The one who’s unprepared, unprofessional, and leaves clients hanging. The one who doesn’t get referrals from clients.
Because the client who was impressed with my professionalism and follow-up, IS going to refer more clients my way.Â
The client who needed a re-shoot? Oh you know sheâs already singing my praises on social media. Proof here.đ
The experience you provide matters and it can make the difference between getting work and not getting work.
Can you commit to being the photographer your clients rave about, not the one they regret? Send me a âcommitâ in my DMs here on my new IG account.
