Do you know how to figure out your age range and looks? 🔍
The first question you’ll need to answer is what your age range actually is. From there, you can assess the most common looks for that group.
Most actors think that a larger age range is better for their career, but in fact, the opposite is true.
A reasonable age range is five to seven years (unless you’re under 13). Why? Because being specific with your marketing gives you a much better shot at getting in the door.
During my many consultations, it’s typical for a novice actor to suggest a range from 20 to 35. While a 15-year range might fly on stage, it’s just not real for TV and film. 🎬
THE WIDER THE AGE RANGE, the less focused your submissions are. You end up leaving your career to chance. On stage, makeup is magic. On TV, with few exceptions, a 20-year-old cannot pull off 39. It doesn’t matter how much “range” you think you have!
So it’s best to do your homework and be methodical in finding your type. Then, capitalize on it! 📈
So for example:
If you are 18, perhaps you play 16 to 21.
If you are 24, perhaps you play 20 to 27.
If you are 45, perhaps you play 42 to 48.
SO THEN, how do you find the looks for your group? If you haven’t already…
