[Best Actor Headshots Los Angeles by Vanie]
Over the years, when it comes to headshots, Iâve heard all the nightmare stories, as well as all the praises about makeup artists.
Because Iâve heard it all, I have VERY SPECIFIC criteria when working with a makeup artist to make sure you have the best experience possible with the best results. â¨
Danny Keary: Pimp / Best Friend
Audrey Wasilewski: Working Class / Lawyer / Secretary
For one, I look at their work and make sure they’re talented. A website is a must cuz if they only have Instagram, it’s usually a sign they’re unprofessional or new.
Two, I meet with them before trying them out.
During the meeting, I hand them a list of preferences for headshot-appropriate makeup that agents want to see. I explain industry standards that keep actors in the âsafe zoneâ and prevent reps from asking for a re-shoot.
Youâd be surprised how many people either overdo or donât do enough makeup for headshots.
Little things like not using fingers to touch up under the eyes and prevent infections etc., are discussed as well. Youâd be surprised⌠đ
Ben Hermann: Hipster / Computer Tech
Ben Buehler: Upscale Business / Hipster / Casual Dad
Michael Sheets: BBQ Dad / Exec
I like working with people who aren’t only professional but have an all-around good attitude.
I look for artists who really ENJOY what they do, like to have fun and aren’t eager for the shoot to end so they can leave.
Cuz what a downer on your experience when someone is visibly itching to get out. Ew.
PROFESSIONALISM, to me, means being on time, being attentive to your needs, as well as being agreeable to your requests. â
After all, you’re paying for this service, SO YOUâRE THE BOSS!
After makeup is applied, if you request any changes, my makeup artists shouldn’t get offended or give you a hard time! This is a MUST!
Before we start, I instruct them to watch closely for a hair out of place, or wardrobe malfunctions, or touch ups that may be needed.Â
And, for my dark-skinned thespians, I make sure to work with professionals who understand ALL skin types, wonât make you look ashy or orange, and are mindful of the tonal variations on your skin! đ¤
My goal is to take the guesswork out of your session so when you book with me, you’re getting a hand-picked team that knows exactly how to make you look like the best version of yourself⌠without the “nightmare” stories and re-shoot requests because of bad makeup.
The headshot examples throughout my blogs display a range of makeup applied to all skin tones, old and young, male or female, white or black!
